A Dartmouth Atlas Health Care study reveals that the pursuit of aggressive medical care among chronically ill and older individuals neither prolongs life nor the quality of life. Those persons pursuing more aggressive treatments and continual medical care, experience a higher death rate than other chronically ill persons with the same disease who choose less medical care in the final months of life.
Hospice care is a non-aggressive form of end-of-life care that promotes quality of life for people who are dying.
